1) Application of the strap for tightening the load into a compact unit / e.g. a bundle of boards, wires, tubes, etc./

  • Enlace the strap of the required length and with a firmly stitched ratchet around the load, run the free strap end through the ratchet driver, tighten the strap in the driver manually and tension it firmly using the ratchet handle.
  • Number of straps should be chosen according to the length and weight of the load. The lashing strap must not be routed across sharp edges of the load, e.g. edges of metal plates, boards, etc. If the strap is led across sharp edges, it is necessary to protect it against damage – e.g. using a protective sleeve or protective corner

2) Application of the strap to attach the load on the cargo surface of transport vehicles or to the grid of passenger vehicles

  • Prepare the strap of the required length and with a firmly stitched ratchet for securing the load as follows: throw the strap free end over the load, lead it under the transport vehicle, run it through the ratchet driver, tighten the strap in the driver manually and tension it firmly using the ratchet handle.
  • Number of straps should be chosen according to the weight of the load, its width and height, and the design of the cargo surface in terms of friction. If the strap is led across sharp edges (those of the load as well as those of the transport vehicle), it is necessary to protect it against damage – e.g. using a protective sleeve or protective corner.
  • The load attachment to the grid of a passenger vehicle is done similarly. In this case, lead the lashing strap under the grid holders. It is necessary to be careful when tensioning the strap by the ratchet handle to avoid deformations of the car body.
  • In these straps, the set consists of two lashing parts. The so-called shorter piece is usually a strap with length of 0.5 m with a firmly stitched ratchet on one side and wire claw hook stitched on the other side.
  • Longer piece is a strap of the necessary length with a firmly stitched wire claw hook.
  • Application of the strap is similar to the one-piece version used for attaching the transported load to the cargo surface of the vehicle.
  • Insert the hooks of both parts of the strap into the respective retaining lug or opening of the retaining edge of the vehicle / one hook on the left side, the other hook on the right side /; throw the longer strap over the load and lead its free end through the ratchet driver of the shorter part.
  • Tighten the strap manually and tension it firmly using the ratchet handle.
  • Number of straps conforms to the same principles as in the one-piece version; the same principles also apply to the protection of straps against damage when straps are routed across areas with sharp edges.
  • The set of these straps is similar to the straps with wire claw hooks which are replaced with “E” type spring hooks.
  • Manipulation with these straps is similar to that with conventional two-piece straps; however, they are used in vehicles equipped with steel clamp bars / e.g. platform-type lorries with bars mounted on the sidewalls or vans with bars attached to the walls of their body /.
  • Fixation of “E” type spring hooks into the holes in the steel clamp bar is very easy – press the locking lever of the spring hook, insert it into the bar opening and release the lever.
  • Lashing straps prevent the load movement along the cargo surface of the vehicle, both in the travel direction “A” and lateral direction “B”. Straps should be attached into the holes of the clamp bar so that the spring hook is “slightly” behind the load edge / see the figure – attachment point “X” /.
  • during transport of the load, the lashing straps slightly loosen after several kilometres (due to the first initial shocks of the cargo); therefore, they must be checked for tightening or tightened again
  • lashing straps must be provided with correct identification labels, on every part of the set
  • blue labels indicate 100% polyester and must contain basic information about the given lashing means (manufacturer, strap type, size, allowable lashing forces, the approval number as ATEST 8 SD no. ………, standard ČSN EN 12195 -2, date of the strap production, as well as the information markedly warning of the fact that the straps are used exclusively “FOR LASHING – NOT FOR LIFTING”
  • before each use of the strap, it is necessary to carry out a visual inspection due to possible disruptions of metal parts, textile belts or the quality of sewing patterns
  • number and type of lashing straps is always selected based on the weight of the load to be transported, its length, width and height, the size and quality of the friction areas between the load and the cargo surface of the respective vehicle. It is always better to use more straps in order to ensure high quality of the transport.
  • do not forget spare straps for replacing any damaged straps or for lashing the load with a greater weight during the return transport
  • during winter season, be aware of frostbitten straps. Upon completion of the cargo transport, leave the straps freely defrost (beware of breaking “frostbitten straps”) and then leave them slowly dry in a warm room – ATTENTION, not in a hot place
  • dirty straps can be washed using common laundry detergents without any impacts on their quality; after washing, rinse them with clean water and leave them dry in the unfolded state
  • it is recommended that the lashing straps are professionally inspected by a service organization after about two years
  • FALK GROUP s.r.o. provides service exclusively for lashing straps from own production (inspection and repair of damaged parts)
  • if the straps show partial damage, the respective parts can be replaced with new parts, and the repaired lashing set will be equipped with the so-called guarantee label stating the date of repair
  • Straps with defects of sub-components (damaged ratchet, hook, belt or sewing) must always be assessed by the production organization and subsequently either repaired or scrapped.

Products referred to in section I. Types of the lashing means are consistent with types approved by the Ministry of Transport and Communications under approval number ATEST 8SD no …….
